Why WinterWorld Westies?
People have asked us why we decided to start a second West Coast Swing club in Tromsø. The answer begins a few years ago.
When we (Jason and Isabelle) moved to Tromsø at the end of the COVID era, the local West Coast Swing community had almost disappeared. We could either stop dancing -or build it back up. – We chose to build!
It wasn’t easy. We had no local network, no experience running a club, and no roadmap to follow. Thankfully, Tromsø Swingklubb welcomed us under their wing while West Coast Swing found its feet again, and we’re sincerely grateful for the support we received.
Over the years, the club became independent, the community slowly grew, and so did we. As dancers, instructors, organizers and club leaders, we learned an incredible amount – but we also discovered what we would do differently if we ever were to start from scratch again.
And that’s exactly why we’ve created WinterWorld Westies: to build the club we wish we had built from the very beginning – the kind of club we truly believe benefits our dancers, the club itself, and the local West Coast Swing community as a whole. We see this as a great opportunity for the two current clubs to co-exist and complement each other, creating even more opportunities for dancers in Tromsø to learn, practice and grow!
