Find your West Coast Swing flow
From first steps to musical connection, our classes in Tromsø are designed to help you grow, social dance with confidence, and enjoy the community around every session.
Levels
Classes for every stage
Whether you are brand new to West Coast Swing or ready to refine technique, styling, and musicality, there is a place for you on the floor.

Newcomer
The Newcomers level is designed for anyone who wants to discover the joy of West Coast Swing—no previous dance experience required.
We’ll guide you through the fundamentals step by step in a supportive and welcoming environment, helping you build confidence from your very first class. You’ll learn the core principles of West Coast Swing, including timing, connection, lead and follow, and the fundamental patterns that form the foundation for everything to come.
From day one, we focus on developing good habits and sound technique. By building a strong foundation from the start, you’ll progress more confidently and enjoy the journey even more.
At WinterWorld Westies, our newcomers are incredibly important to us. Every great dancer started exactly whereyou are today, and we’re committed to giving you the best possible start on your West Coast Swing journey.
Whether you’ve never danced before or are simply new to West Coast Swing, this is the perfect place to begin.

Improvers
The Improvers level is designed for dancers who are comfortable with the fundamental concepts of West Coast Swing and are ready to build on their foundation.
At this level, you’ll continue refining your technique, improve the quality and consistency of your movement, and expand your understanding of connection, timing, musicality, and partnership. New patterns and concepts will be introduced, but the focus remains on developing strong fundamentals rather than simply learning more material.
As you progress, you’ll also begin receiving personal feedback, along with simple exercises and occasional homework designed to reinforce what you’ve learned and encourage steady improvement between classes.
This class is ideal for dancers who have completed a beginners course or have equivalent experience and feel comfortable with the basic figures and principles of West Coast Swing.
Whether your goal is to become a more confident social dancer or prepare for more advanced training, the Improvers level provides the tools and practice needed to continue your development.

WinterWorld Westies Academy
The WinterWorld Westies Academy is our small-group coaching program for dancers who are especially committed to their development. Admission is by invitation or audition and is based on much more than your current dance level.
While technical ability is naturally considered, we place just as much value on commitment, coachability, consistent progress, and a genuine willingness to put in the work between classes. Our goal isn’t to create a group of the “best” dancers. It’s to create the best possible learning environment for dancers who are ready to benefit from more individualized coaching.
Academy members receive detailed personal feedback, individual homework, and close follow-up in a small group setting. To reinforce the material and maximize progress, enrollment in the Improvers class is required alongside the Academy. Whether your goal is social dancing, competition, performance, or simply becoming the best dancer you can be, the Academy is designed to help you get there.
Places are intentionally limited and are normally offered for one year before being re-evaluated. This allows more dancers to experience the program over time while keeping the group dynamic and focused. In exceptional cases, a place may be reviewed earlier if the expected commitment and participation are not maintained.
Most Academy members will come from our Improvers group, but we also keep an eye out for promising newcomers who show exceptional commitment and progress. If invited, they simply continue attending Newcomers while also enrolling in Improvers and the WinterWorld Westies Academy. For our Improvers dancers, the Academy is something to work towards. Every class, practice session and homework assignment is an opportunity to show your commitment – we’ll notice the effort.
Practice Sessions and Social Dancing
At WinterWorld Westies, we believe both are important, but that they serve two very different purposes.
Practice Sessions are where you focus on improving. This is your time to repeat patterns, work on technique, ask questions, try new ideas, and spend a little longer on the things that don’t quite work yet. It’s a relaxed environment where it’s perfectly okay to stop, laugh, try again, and keep learning.
Social Dancing is where you put everything into practice. Instead of thinking about the details, you get to enjoy the music, dance with lots of different partners, and experience what makes West Coast Swing so much fun. Dancing with a variety of people also helps you become a more adaptable and confident dancer.
By giving dedicated time to both, we hope you’ll never feel like you have to choose between practicing and simply enjoying yourself. When it’s time to practice, you can focus on improving. When it’s time to social dance, you can focus on connecting, having fun, and dancing without feeling guilty that you “should be practicing.”
We believe this balance helps create not only stronger dancers, but also a stronger and more welcoming community.
Monthly Spotlight & Feedback Session
Once a month, we’ll take a break from our regular classes and social dancing for a dedicated Spotlight & Feedback Session.
For those who wish to participate, this is an opportunity to dance a short spotlight with a partner while receiving constructive feedback from the instructor. It may feel a little outside your comfort zone at first, but that’s part of the experience. The goal is to help dancers become more comfortable performing in front of others, prepare for competitions if desired, and gain valuable insights to support their development.
Just as importantly, these evenings are meant to bring our club together. They provide a relaxed opportunity to socialize, cheer each other on, and get to know dancers across practice groups. Whether you choose to dance or simply watch, everyone is encouraged to join and be part of the experience.
Why We Do Things Differently?
At most dance classes, everyone receives the same instruction and that’s completely understandable. With limited time and many dancers on the floor, it’s difficult to give everyone individual attention.
At WinterWorld Westies, we want to change that.
We all have different strengths, different habits, and different things holding us back. That’s why, as you progress through our program, you’ll begin receiving personal feedback, along with simple exercises and occasional homework tailored to your own development.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s progress.
Sometimes, one small adjustment is all it takes to make your dancing feel more comfortable, more connected, and more enjoyable – for both you and your dance partners.
We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to grow at their own pace, and a little personal guidance can make a big difference.
After all, if everyone learns differently…
Then shouldn’t we teach a little
differently too?
